In value terms, capacitor exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +17.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. China was the main exporter of electrical capacitors in the world, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 30% of total exports in 2021. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Japan (9.1%), Malaysia (5.6%), Germany (5.2%) and South Korea (4.5%). Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), the United States (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+28.3%), Malaysia (+7.2%), Germany (+6.4%), Indonesia (+5.3%), Japan (+3.7%), South Korea (+3.7%), the Czech Republic (+2.5%) and the Netherlands (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +28.3% from 2012-2021. Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-1.0%), Singapore (-1.8%) and the United States (-6.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, the Philippines, Malaysia and Germany increased by +4.7, +2, +1.9 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 55% of global exports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), the United States, Germany, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Indonesia and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 37%.

Among the main exporting countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +25.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average capacitor export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2021, Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Hungary (X tons), China (X tons) and Germany (X tons) was the largest importer of electrical capacitors in the world, constituting 38% of total import. Singapore (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 4.7% share, followed by the United States (4.6%). South Korea (X tons), Mexico (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Italy (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +19.2%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest capacitor importing markets worldwide were China ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 47% of global imports. These countries were followed by the United States, Mexico, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Hungary, Italy and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +20.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average capacitor import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, capacitor import price increased by +90.2% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
