The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. The global exports peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, automotive lighting exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China was the main exporter of automotive lighting in the world, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was near 30% of total exports in 2021. Germany (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X units), South Korea (X units) and Mexico (X units). All these countries together took near 29% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), Poland (X units), Slovakia (X units), France (X units), Spain (X units), the United States (X units), India (X units) and Austria (X units) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, South Korea (+22.9%), India (+13.8%), Poland (+12.5%), Slovakia (+10.9%), Spain (+5.7%), Mexico (+5.1%), the Czech Republic (+4.2%), France (+2.6%) and Germany (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +22.9% from 2012-2021. Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Austria (-1.1%) and the United States (-4.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Korea (+4.9 p.p.), China (+4.4 p.p.), Poland (+2 p.p.) and Slovakia (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Austria, Taiwan (Chinese), Germany and the United States saw its share reduced by -1.5%, -1.7%, -2.5% and -3.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest automotive lighting supplying countries worldwide were China ($X), Germany ($X) and Mexico ($X), together comprising 37% of global exports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Taiwan (Chinese), the United States, South Korea, Slovakia, Poland, France, Austria, Spain and India, which together accounted for a further 42%.

India, with a CAGR of +15.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average automotive lighting export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2020, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the United States (X units), distantly followed by Germany (X units), China (X units) and Spain (X units) represented the key importers of automotive lighting, together creating 47% of total imports. Mexico (X units), France (X units), India (X units), Slovakia (X units), Brazil (X units), Japan (X units), Italy (X units), Russia (X units) and Poland (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +21.7%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Among the main importing countries, India, with a CAGR of +15.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average automotive lighting import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 9%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
