The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Japan (X tons) and China (X tons) represented the key exporters of flat-rolled products of iron or steel (not further worked than hot-rolled) in 2021, finishing at near 14% and 12% of total exports, respectively. South Korea (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 7.5% share, followed by Russia (6.5%), India (5.9%) and Belgium (4.6%). The following exporters - Germany (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), France (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Canada (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) - together made up 24% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +14.2%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest hot-rolled steel products supplying countries worldwide were Japan ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X), together accounting for 31% of global exports. These countries were followed by Belgium, India, Russia, Germany, France, Taiwan (Chinese), Ukraine, Canada, the Netherlands and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 39%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, India, with a CAGR of +16.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average hot-rolled steel products export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.5%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Global imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hot-rolled steel products imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the twelve major importers of flat-rolled products of iron or steel (not further worked than hot-rolled), namely Italy, Turkey, Vietnam, the United States, Germany, South Korea, Thailand, China, Poland, Spain, Belgium and France, represented more than half of total import. Mexico (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
