The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Canada (X tons) was the largest exporter of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines, creating 37% of total exports. Belgium (X tons) held a 9.6% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (8.3%), the United States (5.7%) and Jordan (5%). Israel (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Chile (X tons), Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and India (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Canada decreased at an average annual rate of -2.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Israel (+148.4%), Singapore (+35.2%), India (+17.6%), the United States (+10.6%), Belgium (+9.7%), Thailand (+6.0%) and Poland (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +148.4% from 2012-2021. Chile experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-1.4%), Jordan (-1.7%) and Romania (-9.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belgium (+5.3 p.p.), Israel (+4.2 p.p.), the United States (+3.3 p.p.), Singapore (+2 p.p.) and India (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2021, the share of France (-1.5 p.p.), Romania (-3.8 p.p.) and Canada (-9.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine supplier worldwide, comprising 33% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 13% share of global exports. It was followed by Israel, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Chile amounted to -4.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (+0.5% per year) and Israel (+8.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average export price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -14.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of global imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 15%. Global imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons), followed by Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the major importers of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines, together creating 43% of total imports. Hungary (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), India (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Switzerland (X tons), France (X tons), Free Zones (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Malaysia (with a CAGR of +30.0%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines worldwide, comprising 28% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with an 11% share of global imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 9.7% share.
In China, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-5.1% per year) and Belgium (-5.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
