Ireland (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Germany (X tons) and Spain (X tons). All these countries together took near 17% share of total exports. Poland (X tons), Switzerland (X tons), Rwanda (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Denmark (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Rwanda (with a CAGR of +103.4%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), New Zealand ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 47% of global exports. These countries were followed by Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, the United States, Singapore, Denmark, Spain, Mexico and Rwanda, which together accounted for a further 31%.

Rwanda, with a CAGR of +108.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average baby food export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, global imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2021, China (X tons), distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the largest importers of food preparations for infants, together creating 30% of total imports. Vietnam (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), France (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +12.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Iraq (+29.8%), Poland (+15.1%), Nigeria (+12.7%), Vietnam (+10.4%), Turkey (+9.3%), Germany (+5.2%), Algeria (+4.6%) and Malaysia (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iraq emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +29.8% from 2012-2021. Saudi Arabia and France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the UK (-1.6%) and Italy (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+10 p.p.), Iraq (+1.8 p.p.) and Poland (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2021, the share of Italy (-1.9 p.p.) and the UK (-3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported food preparations for infants worldwide, comprising 39% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 4.7% share of global imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China stood at +17.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (-0.4% per year) and Vietnam (+9.2% per year).

The average baby food import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 4% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%.
