The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 26%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the global exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Morocco was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 40% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons) and China (X tons), together comprising a 27% share of total exports. Spain (X tons), Mauritania (X tons), India (X tons), Namibia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Democratic People's Republic of Korea (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Peru (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Morocco increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mauritania (+23.5%), Namibia (+7.1%) and Senegal (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +23.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Philippines (-3.7%), Vietnam (-4.0%), China (-20.0%), Spain (-20.3%), Democratic People's Republic of Korea (-27.0%), India (-29.5%), the United States (-33.4%) and Peru (-37.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Morocco, Vietnam, Mauritania, Namibia, Senegal and the Philippines increased by +37, +11, +2.8, +2.2, +2 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Morocco ($X) remains the largest frozen cuttlefishes supplier worldwide, comprising 43% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 15% share of global exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 14% share.

In Morocco, frozen cuttlefishes exports increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-16.3% per year) and Vietnam (-6.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average frozen cuttlefishes export price amounted to $X per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 27%. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

In 2021, the Philippines (X tons), distantly followed by Democratic People's Republic of Korea (X tons), New Zealand (X tons), China (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the major importers of frozen cuttlefishes, together comprising 70% of total imports. South Korea (X tons), Italy (X tons), South Africa (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Democratic People's Republic of Korea (with a CAGR of +25.2%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X), the United States ($X) and Thailand ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 36% share of global imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, China, Italy, Malaysia, Russia, South Africa and New Zealand, which together accounted for a further 39%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, with a CAGR of +29.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average frozen cuttlefishes import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 26%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while New Zealand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
