The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +50.8% against 2016 indices. The shipments of the three major exporters of gingerbread, namely Germany, Canada and Poland, represented more than half of total export. Brazil (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 6.4% share, followed by Spain (4.8%) and Russia (4.7%). The following exporters - Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Italy (X tons) - together made up 17% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +25.6%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest gingerbread supplying countries worldwide were Canada ($X), Germany ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 59% share of global exports. The UK, Brazil, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Russia and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +15.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average gingerbread export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 7.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The global export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +76.9% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, the United States (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), France (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the largest importers of gingerbread, together generating 49% of total imports. The following importers - the UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Romania (X tons), Austria (X tons), Belarus (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) - together made up 23% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to gingerbread imports into the United States stood at +8.5%. At the same time, Belarus (+61.4%), Denmark (+28.2%), Slovakia (+15.4%), Italy (+11.2%), Romania (+11.1%), Hungary (+10.8%), Germany (+9.2%), the Czech Republic (+7.3%) and the UK (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +61.4% from 2012-2022. France and Austria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-3.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Slovakia, the United States, Belarus, Germany, Italy and Denmark increased by +4.9, +4.7, +2.7, +2.6, +2.3 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported gingerbread worldwide, comprising 28% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Slovakia ($X), with a 9.4% share of global imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.4% share.
In the United States, gingerbread imports expanded at an average annual rate of +10.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovakia (+16.2% per year) and Germany (+10.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average gingerbread import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
