The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +94.6% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 63% of total exports in 2022. Indonesia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 9.2% share, followed by Brazil (8.1%), Thailand (7%) and France (4.8%). Vietnam (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the glutamic acid and its salts exports, with a CAGR of +10.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Thailand (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Brazil and Vietnam experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-1.4%) and France (-22.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+21 p.p.) and France (+4.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Vietnam, Brazil and Indonesia saw its share reduced by -3.9%, -5.4% and -9.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest glutamic acid supplier worldwide, comprising 54% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with an 11% share of global exports. It was followed by Brazil, with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China stood at +9.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (-0.1% per year) and Brazil (+0.1% per year).

The average glutamic acid export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 15% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 20%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, the largest glutamic acid importing markets worldwide were Japan ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Nigeria ($X), together accounting for 31% of global imports.
