The global exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-alloy steel i-sections exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed modest growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Spain represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 33% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), Germany (X tons), Luxembourg (X tons) and Poland (X tons), together mixing up a 35% share of total exports. Italy (X tons), South Korea (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Russia (X tons), the UK (X tons), China (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-alloy steel i-sections exports from Spain stood at +1.9%. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+33.4%), the UK (+19.3%), South Korea (+16.2%), Bahrain (+13.7%), China (+11.0%) and Turkey (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +33.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Luxembourg (-1.2%), Germany (-1.6%), Italy (-2.1%), Russia (-2.3%) and Poland (-6.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Spain, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea and the UK increased by +6, +4.2, +2.7, +2.2 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the largest non-alloy steel i-sections supplier worldwide, comprising 33% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 12% share of global exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 9.9% share.
In Spain, non-alloy steel i-sections exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-0.2% per year) and Turkey (+4.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average non-alloy steel i-sections export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, France (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the largest importers of i-sections of non-alloy steelaround the world, together comprising 20% of total imports. It was followed by Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons), together generating an 11% share of total imports. The following importers - Afghanistan (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Italy (X tons), Canada (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Ireland (X tons) - together made up 24% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Afghanistan (with a CAGR of +13.3%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), the UK ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 28% of global imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Algeria, Malaysia, Belgium, Italy, Canada, Ireland, Portugal, Morocco and Afghanistan, which together accounted for a further 27%.
Among the main importing countries, Ireland, with a CAGR of +14.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-alloy steel i-sections import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 47% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Afghanistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
