In general, total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -18.8% against 2014 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the global exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imitation jewellery exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The global exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
China prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 76% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), comprising a 5.7% share of total exports. The following exporters - India (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) - each finished at a 3.9% share of total exports.
China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the imitation jewelry exports, with a CAGR of +12.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Netherlands (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-6.9%) and India (-16.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+36 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Hong Kong SAR and India saw its share reduced by -10.4% and -15.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest imitation jewellery supplier worldwide, comprising 43% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with an 11% share of global exports. It was followed by India, with a 1.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China stood at +17.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hong Kong SAR (-4.9% per year) and India (-7.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average imitation jewellery export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 5.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 9.6%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+10.8%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, global imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the United States (X tons), distantly followed by India (X tons) represented the major importers of imitation jewelry, together mixing up 24% of total imports. Hong Kong SAR (X tons), the UK (X tons), Canada (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Germany (X tons), France (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Greece (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to imitation jewellery imports into the United States stood at +2.6%. At the same time, India (+11.3%), Greece (+9.2%), Thailand (+6.0%) and the Netherlands (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +11.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-1.2%), Malaysia (-2.9%), France (-5.8%), Canada (-7.3%), the UK (-8.6%), Germany (-9.2%), Hong Kong SAR (-11.3%) and Brazil (-12.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United States (+7 p.p.) and India (+3.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Canada, Germany, the UK, Brazil and Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -2.1%, -2.5%, -2.8% and -4.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United States ($X), France ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 29% share of global imports. These countries were followed by Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, Thailand, Brazil, India, Malaysia and Greece, which together accounted for a further 19%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Thailand, with a CAGR of +8.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average imitation jewellery import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 8.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
