China represented the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which recorded 37% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X units), South Korea (X units), Poland (X units), Germany (X units) and Japan (X units), together committing a 47% share of total exports. Singapore (X units) and Thailand (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to lithium-ion accumulator exports from China stood at +13.5%. At the same time, Thailand (+120.5%), Poland (+104.1%), Germany (+74.9%), Japan (+34.1%), Singapore (+20.4%), South Korea (+15.2%) and Hong Kong SAR (+10.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +120.5% from 2012-2021. Poland (+11 p.p.), Germany (+7.3 p.p.), Japan (+3.9 p.p.) and Thailand (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while South Korea, Hong Kong SAR and China saw its share reduced by -3.1%, -11% and -16.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest lithium-ion accumulator supplier worldwide, comprising 41% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with an 11% share of global exports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled +22.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+72.9% per year) and Germany (+40.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average lithium-ion accumulator export price amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -2.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 15%. The global export price peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In 2021, Hong Kong SAR (X units), Germany (X units) and China (X units) was the key importer of lithium-ion accumulators in the world, generating 38% of total import. India (X units) held a 5.9% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the United States (5.4%). Mexico (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Spain (X units), France (X units), Poland (X units), South Korea (X units), Vietnam (X units) and Japan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mexico (with a CAGR of +88.8%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest lithium-ion accumulator importing markets worldwide were Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a combined 39% share of global imports. South Korea, China, Vietnam, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Japan, India, France, Poland and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.
Mexico, with a CAGR of +54.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average lithium-ion accumulator import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, lithium-ion accumulator import price increased by +25.4% against 2018 indices.
