In value terms, cellulose pulp machinery exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. The global exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

China represented the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which reached 47% of total exports. Sweden (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by the United States (9.4%) and Finland (4.5%). Singapore (X units), Italy (X units), Poland (X units), Austria (X units), India (X units) and Thailand (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cellulose pulp machinery exports from China stood at +17.2%. At the same time, Thailand (+162.5%), Singapore (+17.4%), Italy (+13.0%), India (+12.9%), the United States (+12.5%) and Poland (+10.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +162.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Sweden (-3.3%), Austria (-18.3%) and Finland (-19.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+39 p.p.), the United States (+7 p.p.), Singapore (+2.7 p.p.), Italy (+2.3 p.p.), Thailand (+1.7 p.p.), Poland (+1.6 p.p.) and India (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Sweden, Austria and Finland saw its share reduced by -2.4%, -11.1% and -26.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the largest cellulose pulp machinery supplying countries worldwide were Sweden ($X), China ($X) and Austria ($X), with a combined 65% share of global exports. These countries were followed by Finland, Singapore, India, the United States, Italy, Poland and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 18%.

Thailand, with a CAGR of +25.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average cellulose pulp machinery export price amounted to $X per unit, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 22% against the previous year. The global export price peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +10.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mozambique (+56.0%), Ghana (+48.1%), Thailand (+38.0%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (+37.3%), Nigeria (+33.9%), Finland (+27.7%), Malaysia (+26.2%), Russia (+17.8%), Singapore (+13.5%) and India (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +56.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, China (-13.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+13 p.p.), Bosnia and Herzegovina (+11 p.p.), Russia (+7.6 p.p.), Mozambique (+5.6 p.p.), Ghana (+3.9 p.p.), Malaysia (+2.9 p.p.), Finland (+2.4 p.p.), Thailand (+2.4 p.p.) and Nigeria (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while China saw its share reduced by -22% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported machinery for making pulp of fibrous cellulosic material worldwide, comprising 42% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 13% share of global imports. It was followed by China, with a 9.7% share.

In Brazil, cellulose pulp machinery imports expanded at an average annual rate of +10.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+14.1% per year) and China (-8.4% per year).
