The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 17%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +70.1% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

The United States (+6.2 p.p.), Lesotho (+3.2 p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while the Netherlands and Angola saw its share reduced by -2.6% and -5.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-wheat flours worldwide, comprising 15% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 5.2% share of global imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 4.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United States totaled +10.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Spain (+4.2% per year) and Germany (+5.4% per year).
