The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +47.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2022, India (X tons) was the major exporter of optical fibers and bundles, comprising 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by China (X tons), generating a 22% share of total exports. Japan (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Italy (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from India increased at an average annual rate of +19.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, China (+31.4%) and Italy (+8.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +31.4% from 2012-2022. Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United States (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. India (+28 p.p.) and China (+17 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Japan and the United States saw its share reduced by -6.6% and -11.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest optical fiber and bundle supplying countries worldwide were China ($X), India ($X) and the United States ($X), together comprising 59% of global exports.

China, with a CAGR of +21.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average optical fiber and bundle export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -13.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 18%. Global imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, India (X tons), Romania (X tons), the UK (X tons), France (X tons), the United States (X tons), Spain (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Mexico (X tons), Australia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Poland (X tons) and China (X tons) represented the largest importer of optical fibers and bundles in the world, comprising 60% of total import. Italy (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +40.3%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), the United States ($X) and Romania ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 30% of global imports.
