The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.

Belgium (X cubic meters) and France (X cubic meters) represented roughly 45% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the United States (X cubic meters), committing an 11% share of total exports. The following exporters - Kuwait (X cubic meters), Germany (X cubic meters), Portugal (X cubic meters), the Netherlands (X cubic meters), Poland (X cubic meters), the Czech Republic (X cubic meters) and Switzerland (X cubic meters) - together made up 22% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +12.8%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the largest oxygen supplier worldwide, comprising 25% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 12% share of global exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Belgium amounted to +4.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+0.9% per year) and the United States (-1.1% per year).

In 2022, the average oxygen export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, with an increase of 4.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 8.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 34%. Global imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, oxygen imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

The purchases of the three major importers of oxygen, namely the Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg, represented more than third of total import. In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and Luxembourg ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 32% of global imports. Greece, Jordan, Slovakia, the UK, Canada, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Saudi Arabia, Russia and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

Among the main importing countries, Greece, with a CAGR of +16.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average oxygen import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, shrinking by -4.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per cubic meter in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
