The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, France (X tons), distantly followed by Spain (X tons), the United States (X tons), Italy (X tons), India (X tons), Germany (X tons), China (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the major exporters of perfumes and toilet waters, together committing 68% of total exports. In France, perfume exports increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+7.4% per year) and Germany (-1.1% per year).

The average perfume export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 16%. Global imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, perfume imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, global imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2022, the United States (X tons), distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), the UK (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main importers of perfumes and toilet waters, together mixing up 31% of total imports. Spain (X tons), Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons), Canada (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), France (X tons), Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Chile (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into the United States increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+11.9%), Chile (+10.5%), Canada (+8.6%), the Netherlands (+7.8%), Spain (+7.5%), Italy (+7.5%), France (+6.0%) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +11.9% from 2012-2022. The UK experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-1.7%), Russia (-3.6%) and Germany (-4.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the United States, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Canada increased by +5.2, +1.9, +1.8, +1.7 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
