In 2021, the United States (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) represented the largest exporters of prepared explosivesaround the world, together comprising 23% of total exports. Poland (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 6.7% share, followed by Peru (6.1%), Burkina Faso (5.4%), India (5.1%), Mexico (4.7%) and Spain (4.5%). France (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons), Zambia (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of +75.2%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the largest explosives supplier worldwide, comprising 29% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 7.4% share of global exports. It was followed by India, with a 4.8% share.
In the United States, explosives exports contracted by an average annual rate of -4.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (-1.3% per year) and India (+11.1% per year).

In 2021, the average explosives export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -4.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a mild contraction. In 2021, Burkina Faso (X tons), followed by Canada (X tons), Finland (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) were the key importers of prepared explosives, together mixing up 40% of total imports. Germany (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons), Norway (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Spain (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Ecuador (with a CAGR of +17.2%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Canada ($X) and Burkina Faso ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 25% of global imports.
Among the main importing countries, the United States, with a CAGR of +8.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average explosives import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 7.1%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
