In 2022, overseas shipments of printing presses increased by 72% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 107% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, printing press exports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The global exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United States dominates exports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 72% of total exports in 2022. Singapore (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 5.1% share, followed by the UK (4.6%). China (X units), Slovakia (X units) and Italy (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The United States was also the fastest-growing in terms of the printing presses exports, with a CAGR of +67.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Slovakia (+16.6%), China (+6.0%), Singapore (+5.1%) and Italy (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the UK (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the United States increased by +71 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X), Italy ($X) and the United States ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 24% of global exports. The UK, Singapore and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.2%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +13.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average printing press export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -41.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average export price increased by 8.5%. The global export price peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Global printing press imports soared to X units in 2022, picking up by 44% against the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +101.5% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, printing press imports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 13%. Over the period under review, global imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United States dominates imports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 54% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Spain (X units), comprising a 5.5% share of total imports. Canada (X units), the UK (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Brazil (X units), South Africa (X units), Thailand (X units), Mexico (X units) and France (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The United States was also the fastest-growing in terms of the printing presses imports, with a CAGR of +84.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Spain (+15.1%), Mexico (+12.5%), the Netherlands (+9.5%), France (+7.1%), Canada (+5.2%), South Africa (+3.1%) and Thailand (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Brazil (-8.9%) and the UK (-9.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United States (+54 p.p.) and Spain (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Brazil and the UK saw its share reduced by -8.5% and -11.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported printing presses worldwide, comprising 12% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 2.8% share of global imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 2.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the United States totaled +1.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-5.6% per year) and the UK (-4.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average printing press import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -30% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a deep downturn.
