In 2021, Italy (X tons), distantly followed by Austria (X tons), the United States (X tons), Germany (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Slovenia (X tons) and China (X tons) represented the major exporters of raw hides and skins of bovine animals, together making up 71% of total exports. France (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Australia (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Italy increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mexico (+59.0%), Hong Kong SAR (+13.1%), Slovenia (+8.8%), France (+8.3%), China (+7.8%), Portugal (+4.5%) and Slovakia (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mexico emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +59.0% from 2012-2021. Austria and Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-1.9%), Australia (-3.1%) and the United States (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Italy, Slovenia, China, Slovakia, Hong Kong SAR and France increased by +10, +2.7, +2.5, +2.3, +2.2 and +2 percentage points, respectively. Germany, the United States, China, Hong Kong SAR, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland, Australia, Mexico and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

Among the main exporting countries, Mexico, with a CAGR of +47.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average cows skin export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -4.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 12%. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
