In 2021, the United States (X tons) was the main exporter of raw hides and skins of cattle, creating 28% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), France (X tons), Italy (X tons), Canada (X tons) and Australia (X tons), together achieving a 25% share of total exports. Argentina (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), the UK (X tons), Austria (X tons), Spain (X tons), Ireland (X tons) and Poland (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

Exports from the United States decreased at an average annual rate of -3.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Argentina (+124.5%), Poland (+4.8%) and the UK (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. At the same time, Nigeria (+58.8%), Brazil (+49.0%) and Turkey (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +58.8% from 2012-2021. The Netherlands, Italy and Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-1.4%), Austria (-2.4%), Thailand (-2.6%) and South Korea (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, China ($X), Italy ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 64% of global imports. Mexico, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Thailand, Nigeria, Brazil and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

Among the main importing countries, Nigeria, with a CAGR of +53.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average cattle hide and skin import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
