China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the salicylic acid and its salts exports, with a CAGR of +8.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+5.6%) and Germany (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, the average salicylic acid export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 18% against the previous year. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of global imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, salicylic acid imports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine years. India was the key importer of salicylic acid and its salts in the world, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 46% of total imports in 2021. The United States (X tons) held an 8.1% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mexico (6.6%) and Germany (6.5%). Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Italy (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), the UK (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to salicylic acid imports into India stood at +11.8%. At the same time, Brazil (+27.7%), Malaysia (+23.9%), the UK (+8.6%), the Netherlands (+7.2%), Denmark (+2.8%) and the United States (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +27.7% from 2012-2021. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Italy (-1.1%), Spain (-2.3%), Thailand (-3.6%) and Mexico (-5.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+23 p.p.) and Malaysia (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2021, the share of Germany (-2.2 p.p.), Thailand (-3.8 p.p.) and Mexico (-8.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported salicylic acid and its salts worldwide, comprising 32% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 14% share of global imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.6% share.
In India, salicylic acid imports increased at an average annual rate of +12.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+5.7% per year) and Germany (+2.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average salicylic acid import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 12%.
