The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 96%. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, screwdriver exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 72% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), achieving a 7.4% share of total exports. Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of screwdrivers. At the same time, the Netherlands (+8.7%), the Czech Republic (+5.4%), Belgium (+3.2%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.1%) and Germany (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +8.7% from 2012-2021. While the share of China (-2.4 p.p.) decreased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest screwdriver supplier worldwide, comprising 44% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 14% share of global exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China stood at +4.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+4.2% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+7.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average screwdriver export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 7.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 81% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United States (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented the major importers of screwdrivers, together constituting 30% of total imports. The UK (X tons), Russia (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to screwdriver imports into the United States stood at +11.0%. At the same time, Malaysia (+23.6%), Chile (+16.2%), Spain (+9.8%), Poland (+7.7%), Italy (+6.2%), the Netherlands (+4.7%), France (+3.8%) and Germany (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +23.6% from 2012-2021. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the UK (-1.1%), Belgium (-1.8%) and Russia (-3.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United States and Malaysia increased by +9.2 and +3.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 34% of global imports. France, Spain, the UK, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Russia, Malaysia, Chile and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Among the main importing countries, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +17.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average screwdriver import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 14%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+6.4%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
