In 2022, after ten years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of soft drinks, when their volume decreased by -1.3% to X litres. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.7% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 8.9%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X litres, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, soft drink exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +45.1% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 14%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from Austria (X litres), Germany (X litres) and the Netherlands (X litres), together resulting at 26% of total export. It was followed by Poland (X litres), generating a 5.3% share of total exports. France (X litres), the United States (X litres), Thailand (X litres), Mexico (X litres), Italy (X litres), Switzerland (X litres), Belgium (X litres), Spain (X litres) and the Czech Republic (X litres) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +13.9%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest soft drink supplying countries worldwide were Austria ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 31% share of global exports. Switzerland, the United States, France, Poland, Thailand, Belgium, Italy, Mexico, Spain and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +13.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average soft drink export price amounted to $X per litre, with a decrease of -1.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per litre in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per litre), while the Czech Republic ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+2.9%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of soft drinks decreased by -0.1% to X litres for the first time since 2011, thus ending a ten-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.6% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X litres, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, soft drink imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.6% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 16%. Over the period under review, global imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the twelve major importers of soft drinks, namely Germany, the UK, the United States, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, Ireland, China, Austria and Singapore, represented more than third of total import. Hungary (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +25.9%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest soft drink importing markets worldwide were the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and the UK ($X), with a combined 22% share of global imports. France, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, China, Cambodia, Austria, Ireland, Singapore and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +28.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 3.5%. Global import price peaked at $X per litre in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
