In 2021, the global steam turbine market decreased by -3.6% to $X for the first time since 2011, thus ending a nine-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a significant expansion. Over the period under review, the global market attained the peak level at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Japan represented the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which finished at 41% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X units) held a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (14%) and Germany (10%). The UK (X units), India (X units) and Ukraine (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to steam turbine exports from Japan stood at -6.2%. At the same time, Ukraine (+22.7%), France (+19.0%), the Czech Republic (+7.0%) and the UK (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ukraine emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +22.7% from 2012-2021. India experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-17.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Czech Republic (+14 p.p.), France (+13 p.p.), Ukraine (+1.9 p.p.) and the UK (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2021, the share of Germany (-21.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Japan ($X), France ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 48% share of global exports. These countries were followed by Germany, India, Ukraine and the UK, which together accounted for a further 17%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Ukraine, with a CAGR of +39.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average steam turbine export price amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 25% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($X per unit), while the UK ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, global imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, steam turbine imports dropped modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 20%. Global imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Indonesia (X units) and Turkey (X units) were the key importers of steam turbines and other vapor turbinesaround the world, together finishing at near 57% of total imports. Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average steam turbine import price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 28% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, steam turbine import price increased by +38.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 41%.
