The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +70.6% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 40%. The global exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, sportswear exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China dominates exports structure, recording X units, which was near 52% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X units) and Turkey (X units), together achieving a 14% share of total exports. The following exporters - Cambodia (X units), Bangladesh (X units), Germany (X units), Sri Lanka (X units), Hong Kong SAR (X units), France (X units), Belgium (X units) and Italy (X units) - together made up 20% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sportswear exports from China stood at +1.8%. At the same time, Vietnam (+11.5%), Bangladesh (+9.3%), Turkey (+9.2%), Cambodia (+6.5%), Sri Lanka (+6.2%), Germany (+4.3%), France (+3.1%), Italy (+2.4%) and Belgium (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +11.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-13.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+5.2 p.p.), Turkey (+2.2 p.p.) and Bangladesh (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2021, the share of Hong Kong SAR (-7.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest sportswear supplier worldwide, comprising 36% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with an 8.4% share of global exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.3% share.
In China, sportswear exports increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+14.3% per year) and Germany (+4.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average sportswear export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, sportswear export price increased by +9.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

At the same time, Belgium (+14.3%), Poland (+10.1%), Australia (+5.9%), the Netherlands (+4.4%), France (+2.4%), Germany (+1.7%), the UK (+1.4%) and Italy (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +14.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Canada (-1.7%), Russia (-1.8%), Spain (-5.8%) and Hong Kong SAR (-14.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United States and Belgium increased by +4.6 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported track suits, ski suits and swimwear worldwide, comprising 20% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 9.2% share of global imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 7% share.
