Triticale Market Size

The global triticale market expanded to $X in 2022, growing by 1.5% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Global consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Triticale Production

In value terms, triticale production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Global production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of triticale production was Poland (X tons), accounting for 38% of total volume. Moreover, triticale production in Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Germany (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Belarus (X tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Poland totaled +5.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (-1.5% per year) and Belarus (-1.2% per year).

In 2022, the global average yield of triticale rose modestly to X tons per ha, growing by 1.7% compared with 2021. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the yield increased by 9.1%. Over the period under review, the average triticale yield reached the maximum level at X tons per ha in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to triticale production attained the peak figure at X ha in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the harvested area failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, global triticale exports dropped to X tons, with a decrease of -9.1% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 138%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the global exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, triticale exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 127% against the previous year. The global exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Poland was the major exporter of triticale in the world, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 62% of total exports in 2022. France (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Germany (X tons). All these countries together took near 27% share of total exports. Lithuania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the triticale exports, with a CAGR of +22.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, France (+9.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-2.0%) and Lithuania (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+45 p.p.) and France (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2022, the share of the Czech Republic (-2.6 p.p.), Germany (-13.4 p.p.) and Lithuania (-20.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest triticale supplier worldwide, comprising 62% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 14% share of global exports. It was followed by Germany, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland amounted to +25.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+10.3% per year) and Germany (+0.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average triticale export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 36% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, triticale export price increased by +70.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Poland ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

In 2022, approx. X tons of triticale were imported worldwide; with a decrease of -7.4% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 137%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of global imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, triticale imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 129%. Over the period under review, global imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Germany was the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 40% of total imports. Spain (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons) and Italy (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 49% share of total imports. The following importers - Austria (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) - each amounted to a 3.4% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +45.8%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Spain ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 80% of global imports. Italy, Austria and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 11%.

Portugal, with a CAGR of +34.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average triticale import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Portugal ($X per ton) and Austria ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
