In 2021, shipments abroad of unvulcanised rubber was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The global exports peaked at X tons in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
In value terms, unvulcanised rubber exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild descent. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons), the United States (X tons), Canada (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons), the UK (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), Romania (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Japan (X tons) represented roughly 79% of total exports in 2021. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +11.1%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest unvulcanised rubber supplying countries worldwide were Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and Canada ($X), with a combined 37% share of global exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, Italy, Poland, the UK, France, Japan, Spain, Belgium, Romania and Malaysia, which together accounted for a further 45%.
Italy, with a CAGR of +2.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average unvulcanised rubber export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 6.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 7.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (-0.6%), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Unvulcanised Rubber Imports

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of unvulcanised rubber, when their volume increased by 13% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. Global imports peaked at X tons in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X tons), followed by Poland (X tons), Mexico (X tons), India (X tons), Spain (X tons), China (X tons), Germany (X tons), Canada (X tons) and France (X tons) represented the key importers of unvulcanised rubber, together creating 61% of total imports. Romania (X tons), Italy (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +31.8%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Poland ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 31% of global imports. Mexico, Germany, Spain, Canada, France, India, Italy, Romania, Hungary and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.
India, with a CAGR of +25.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average unvulcanised rubber import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.4%), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
