The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the maximum at X square meters in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, woven carpet exports dropped to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2022, Turkey (X square meters) represented the key exporter of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings, creating 56% of total exports. China (X square meters) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by India (8%) and Iran (6.1%). Belgium (X square meters), Germany (X square meters) and Bangladesh (X square meters) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to woven carpet exports from Turkey stood at +5.4%. At the same time, Bangladesh (+24.5%), Iran (+6.7%), India (+2.9%) and Germany (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +24.5% from 2012-2022. China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+8.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while China and Belgium saw its share reduced by -4.5% and -5.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest woven carpet supplier worldwide, comprising 40% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 12% share of global exports. It was followed by China, with a 9.5% share.

In Turkey, woven carpet exports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+7.7% per year) and China (+2.6% per year).

The average woven carpet export price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, shrinking by -2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 8.2%. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +64.9% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 30%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, woven carpet imports shrank to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

The United States represented the key importer of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings in the world, with the volume of imports recording X square meters, which was approx. 34% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Germany (X square meters), creating a 6.3% share of total imports. Moreover, Afghanistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +19.0% from 2012-2022. Libya and Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Iraq (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United States (+14 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Libya, Japan and Iraq saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -2% and -3.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
