In general, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +93.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, man-made filament fabric exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Exports by Country
China represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 50% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Spain (X tons), together comprising a 16% share of total exports. The following exporters - Greece (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), France (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Turkey (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) - together made up 19% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to man-made filament fabric exports from China stood at +7.3%. At the same time, Greece (+44.8%), the Netherlands (+30.0%), Spain (+28.7%), the Czech Republic (+27.8%), France (+24.5%), Italy (+21.9%), Germany (+19.1%), Belgium (+9.9%) and Turkey (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Greece emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +44.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Korea (-3.4%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-4.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Spain (+4 p.p.), Italy (+3.5 p.p.), Germany (+3.4 p.p.), Greece (+3.2 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+2.4 p.p.), France (+2.1 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2021, the share of China (-2.7 p.p.), South Korea (-3.1 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-4.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest man-made filament fabric supplier worldwide, comprising 57% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 4% share of global exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 3.9% share.
In China, man-made filament fabric exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (-1.8% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average man-made filament fabric export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 26%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.9%), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Global man-made filament fabric imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, growing by 25% on the year before. In general, imports saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. Global imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The countries with the highest levels of man-made filament fabric imports in 2021 were Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), the United States (X tons), Russia (X tons), Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), Greece (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and Romania (X tons), together reaching 55% of total import. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Greece (with a CAGR of +49.5%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest man-made filament fabric importing markets worldwide were Vietnam ($X), Bangladesh ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together comprising 20% of global imports.
Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +11.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average man-made filament fabric import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 5.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
