Turkey (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), the United States (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to man-made filament yarn exports from China stood at +5.6%. At the same time, Pakistan (+35.0%), India (+18.4%) and the Czech Republic (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +35.0% from 2012-2021. The United States experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-1.4%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-11.5%) and Turkey (-17.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+18 p.p.), India (+17 p.p.) and Pakistan (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2021, the share of Taiwan (Chinese) (-3.9 p.p.) and Turkey (-21.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest man-made filament yarn supplier worldwide, comprising 48% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 14% share of global exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 4% share.

In China, man-made filament yarn exports increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+14.0% per year) and the Czech Republic (+15.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average man-made filament yarn export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 4.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 17% against the previous year. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of man-made filament yarn increased by 20% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Global imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, man-made filament yarn imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild descent. Over the period under review, global imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented roughly 20% of total imports in 2021. Belgium (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 5.8% share, followed by India (4.9%). China (X tons), Canada (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons), the United States (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Germany (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +16.6%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 22% share of global imports. These countries were followed by the United States, China, Belgium, Germany, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Canada, Thailand, the Philippines and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 35%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +18.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average man-made filament yarn import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
